Creative Ways to Use Clothes Hangers

Almost every home has an accumulation of wire clothing hangers. Dry cleaners use the bulk hangers because they are cheap, but they are not the ideal option for clothing. What more can you do with them besides throwing them away? beyond what you could have ever imagined!

Reuse

Donating wire clothing hangers to groups that can utilize them is one of the simplest methods to recycle them; thrift shops, crisis shelters, group homes, & nursing homes are frequently in need of hangers. Many dry cleaners will collect hangers for recycling, and some might even give you credit if you do so.

Recycle

To find out if your neighborhood recycling facility will take wire hangers, inquire there. Low carbon steel is used to make the majority of hangers. Take wire hangers in large quantities for recycling from your neighborhood, church, or school. Even better, you can contribute the funds to a deserving cause.

Creating Padded Hangers

You may make your extra-thin wire hangers into nice padded and decorative ones if you still need the hangers in your wardrobe and are skilled with a knitting needle or crochet hook. These are wonderful housewarming or bridal shower presents. Small ones for the baby’s closet will be appreciated by every expectant mother. There are a variety of free, downloadable patterns for crocheted-covered clothes hangers.

Make a Hanging Shoe Rack

Make a practical and elegant shoe storage solution with simply a wire coat hanger, wire cutters, needle-nose pliers, and some decorative ribbon.

Simple step-by-step instructions are provided for making these hangers. They are excellent for flat shoes and flip-flops. To make the most of the available space and get rid of the stack of shoes, add a low-hanging rod to your wardrobe.

Make a Storage System for Tape, Ribbon, or Both

Most of us could use some organization so that we can find things when we need them. Here’s a fantastic method to recycle a wire clothes hanger into useful storage for tape, ribbon, or anything else that comes on a spool. Simply use wire cutters to cut open the hanger’s bottom edge, and then slide the spools on. Hang the cut edges to use after taping them back together with a small amount of duct tape (easily reopened to switch out spools).

You have reused a hanger and also made some drawer space available!

Make a Frame for a Single-use Strainer

For messy garage projects where you shouldn’t be using your good kitchen strainers, make a temporary strainer out of a clothes hanger, nylon stocking, cheesecloth, or mesh.

The wire hanger should be bent into a roughly rounded shape with the hook serving as the handle. Stretch a single stocking or pair of pantyhose legs over the frame to cover it. Use it later to strain paint or other sloppy materials. The frame can be kept and used another day while the nylon hose can be thrown away.

If you decide to use cheesecloth and mesh as the straining medium, use duct tape to firmly fasten it to the wireframe.

Additional Advice: To construct a portable net to catch fish or stray small animals, tie a mesh onion bag to the clothes hanger frame.
